Food:
Today. Tomorrow.
Together.
Ensuring healthy local food for all Albertans
We are passionate about food. We talk about it, gather around it, include
it in our celebrations, but do we really think about our food?
How can we learn together how to make informed choices about food to ensure a healthy
continuous supply for everyone?
How is our food grown? How does food get processed? Why is food
transported thousands of kilometres from its source to the consumers?
How is our health and our planet’s health affected by our food
system?
Where does our food come from? Can our local farmers
grow enough to feed us all? Does local food really cost more than imported
food? Where do food banks fit in a booming province like Alberta? What
is a 100 mile diet? How is food shared around the world?
You are what you eat. So what are we eating? Fast food, slow food, raw
food, junk food, fresh food, organic, local or processed food? How about
vegetarians, vegans, meat lovers, and the Food Guide?
Where do you buy your food – Farmers’ Markets or grocery stores? Do you know how to read the labels on our food? Produced or grown in Canada – what
does that mean? How do your food habits and behaviours affect you, and your community?
If you’ve ever wondered about these issues, it’s time to
talk and act.
All of us: farmers, producers, processors, eaters, restaurants, retailers,
policy makers, educators, social agencies and land developers have a
stake in this. We can work together to ensure a healthy continuous food supply
for everyone.
Join us for a conference about food.
